Hogulus — zim

The Hogulus in all it’s intimidating might.

The Hogulus is a giant alien creature presumably native to the desert world of Hobo 13. This fierce creature has three pairs of eyes, very large teeth, and otherwise resembles a giant grey-green ram.

Only one Hogulus has appeared during the course of Invader Zim; in the episode "Hobo 13", as part of a military training course. When needing to distract it, Invader Skoodge was callously thrown into its lair by Zim.

As a result, the Hogulus took chase after the Invader, all the while Skoodge crying out for help that never came and while Zim and the rest of his squad continued with the remaining trials. At one point, Skoodge outran the monster long enough to escape, but his relief was short lived as the creature quickly found him again in the Fortress of Pain, and carried him and Sergeant Hobo 678 away. However, since Skoodge was going to appear in later episodes, it is highly likely that Skoodge managed to escape Hobo 13, leaving the Sergeant to a grisly fate.

The Hogulus has several traits from Earth’s fauna: its three pairs of eyes resemble spider eyes, its very large teeth resemble rabbit teeth, and it looks like a giant ram.
Despite the fact that the Hogulus lives on Hobo 13, it was never actually stated to be its home planet, as no other member of its species was seen in the episode, and it was constantly referred to as “The” Hogulus, suggesting that it could have been transported from another planet for the military training course.
The Hogulus was described as being "meat-thirsty" (carnivorous) and will relentlessly hunt down any living prey, regardless of how small the prey is and how far it runs, and once it captures its target it presumably takes it back to its home, suggesting to save it for future meals.
The fact that the Hogulus wasn’t interested in the meat that Sergeant Hobo 678 left behind for the squad to pass through unharmed suggest the creature prefers to hunt rather than to be given food, as seen with how it relentlessly chased after Skoodge.
- It is unknown what animals produced the meat that the Sergeant attempted to give the Hogulus.
In the animatics for "Hobo 13", it was seen that Zim actually did throw the big boulder at the Hogulus, but Skoodge was still harmed. It's unknown why this scene was changed for the actual episode.
